The goal of this project is to develop the infrastructure to plan and implement a coordinated school health program which focuses on the needs of the student population. The program model consists of eight health components which allow schools to provide a comprehensive approach for improved health of students and staff. The eight components include: health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, staff health promotion counseling/social services, healthy school environment and family/community involvement. Locally the C.H.A.M.P.S. (Coordinated Health Approach Means Progress for Schools) committee was developed to spearhead the program. We are currently working with the DePue Unit School District and Malden Community Consolidated School District. We encourage any interested individuals or agencies to join in our efforts.
