Food Handling Classes

We offer several different Food classes depending on the level of training and certification required. If you are unsure which class you need to complete, please visit our Food Handler Information & FAQ page for additional information on current state and local requirments.

8-Hour Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (FSSMC)

The Food Service Sanitation Management class is typically for supervisors and managers. However, anyone can take this course. This course requires 8 hours of training followed by a 90-question exam. Once students pass the exam, they will be ServSafe Certified, and they will qualify for the Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification. This certificate is valid for five (5) years.

Fee: Cost for the course is $125.00.

Requirments

  • Students must attend all 8 hours of the course to sit for the exam.
  • A photo ID is required on the day of the exam
  • Class size is limited to 35 students.
  • Pre-registration form and fee is required to reserve a place in the class.

*Note: Fees are non-refundable, and payment is necessary at the time of registration to guarantee a seat in class.

Food Handler Certificate Class

This 1-day education course will meet the requirements for receiving your Food Handler Certificate. A Food Handler Certificate is required by the Illinois Department of Public Health for food workers that do not have their Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate. This food handler certificate lasts for three (3) years and is not transferable from establishment to establishment. Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be given to each attendee and will meet the requirements for the Food Handler Certification Course.

All employees at all establishments that handle/prepare/touch food are required to have this certificate. The certificate is required to be presented to the health department personnel during inspections.

Fee: Cost for the course is $10.00. Space is limited.
