Communicable Disease Prevention

The Bureau & Putnam County Health Department is responsible for the identification of potential communicable disease problems and the control of the spread of communicable disease within the county.

Services include:

Flu Clinics
Influenza (flu) Vaccine Clinics for adults are scheduled throughout the county in the fall of each year. Clinics for children 6 months to 18 years of age will be conducted at the Bureau & Putnam County Health Department.

Foreign Travel
Bureau and Putnam County residents anticipating foreign travel are advised to contact the Bureau County Health Department for information on vaccine preventable diseases recommended for international travel. Residents will be provided with recommendations specific to their region of travel. Link to foreign travel form

HIV/AIDS and Syphilis Testing
HIV and syphilis testing is available by appointment only by calling 815-872-5091 ext. 218. Testing is confidential.

Infectious Disease Reporting

  • Infectious diseases continue to pose a significant threat to public health and mortality. The CD program provides investigation and follow-up of mandated communicable diseases reported by medical providers. These diseases are mandated to be reported because they are considered to be contagious, infectious, communicable and dangerous to the public health.
  • This department also partners with the Bureau & Putnam County Environmental Health staff when needed to investigate outbreaks, such as food or water borne illnesses in Bureau & Putnam Counties.
